LETTER: Health and safety gone too far

Is health and safety going too far now? In my opinion it has.

Whenever you watch TV, reports of people losing loved ones is always the main headline.

Excuse me, death comes to us all and some prematurely in unfortunate tragic circumstances, the most recent being Emily’s law on Good Morning Britain. Their daughter died in an unfortunate boating accident.

Yes, it’s a tragedy but to now start a campaign to change the law, so everyone who goes on a boat in the future must wear a lifejacket is going too far.

There are too many people who have a tragedy in their life then start a campaign to change the law to keep the memory of their loved one alive.

We are all individuals and have a right to choose to make our own minds up if we wish to wear a lifejacket or not, as the consequences if we do not are only going to affect that individual and no other person is at risk.

That’s life and we all have a right to live it as we please.

Accidents will always happen, no matter how many laws you change to try and make it safer.

What is happening now is people are ignoring most laws as they are too ridiculous to take any notice of. Unfortunately this includes some laws that we used to take notice of and still should.

It is actually having a negative effect and putting us in more danger as, like me, people see another ridiculous law that cannot be policed bought into effect that has no effect.

These people need to grieve in private and learn to accept the tragedy, not go all out to get another ridiculous law introduced that cannot be policed.
