LETTER: Action against violence

Have you heard of 16 days of action taking place from November 25 to December 10 across the UK and other parts of the world – to raise awareness of domestic abuse and any gendered violence?
EDAN Lincs Ending Domestic Abuse Now in Lincolnshire take raising awareness very seriously and don’t restrict it to these 16 days, but it’s good to take part and reach people during the national campaign together.
EDAN Lincs is a domestic abuse charity that provides support, advice and safety to men, women and children who experience domestic abuse.
The organisation has registered charity status (charity number 1092913) with head office in Lincoln, and it operates across the county of Lincolnshire.
EDAN Lincs’ vision is “Life free from domestic abuse” and it’s mission is “to support and empower all those affected by domestic abuse. To raise awareness of the impacts of domestic abuse and promote intolerance of it.”
In 2023 EDAN Lincs was commissioned by Lincolnshire County Council, with support from Lincolnshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner and NHS Lincolnshire Integrated Care Board to provide a new-look Domestic Abuse Support Service called Lincolnshire Domestic Abuse Specialist Service (LDASS).
The new service includes:
lonline support and advice for all domestic abuse victims
lsupport hub and helpline, directing people to the most appropriate services
lintervention services for both adults and children and young people
lrecovery support
lan outreach and engagement team
The support package also includes specialist assistance for adults undergoing experiences such as stalking, controlling/coercive behaviour and honour-based violence.
In addition, there’s advice for businesses on supporting staff affected by domestic abuse, while the team will also be working to increase community awareness, meaning victims are less likely to go unrecognised.
The charity also provides refuge accommodation across Lincolnshire for those fleeing domestic abuse and has two multi-occupancy refuges (one consisting of 11 units and the other having five units), along with seven dispersed properties across the region.
With the help from survivors staying in our charity’s refuges, new posters have been designed to raise awareness, some of the posters have been translated into other languages spoken widely in Lincolnshire to reach multi-cultural communities with the message of help that’s available.
A number of events planned to raise awareness including one with Lady Imps at Lincoln Football Club in the fanzone before the match on November 25 that marks white ribbon day (awareness day to end gendered violence towards women and girls) as well as social media posts that the charity is encouraging to share.
Various community groups are taking part in raising awareness of domestic abuse and organising small displays with shoes and quotes from survivors which can be seen in the community by the local people as well as visitors.
