LETTER: Thanks for keeping office open

I know a lot has been said about keeping the ticket offices open at the railway station and I would like to thank the people that were involved with making this happen.
I was in the position that if I wanted to use the train service then I would have to ask my son or daughter to buy a ticket for me. This and other factors limited me using the railway.
The more senior people of the community are the section that always had difficulty accepting the use of modern technology for one reason or another, lack of skills, confidence or not just having the equipment.
It is however interesting to see that the “more successful” and “younger” of the population are now also showing concern because of Artificial Intelligent.
Keeping the ticket offices open has shown, that through people power we don’t just have to accept technology changes but if we stand together and oppose these changes, we can maintain current methods.
I’ve been to places where you can only use a car park if you download the app and or the QR code, ie no cash. What is this and don’t they understand it is restrictive to some of the population?
Luckily, Spalding so far has managed to keep its banks open but each time I have to see a bank assistant they talk about the use of mobile banking.
Don’t these people realise that if no one uses the banks they will close and the bank staff lose their jobs? This seems to be a bit like turkeys voting for Christmas.
If you drive to a city these days you are likely to have to buy a congestion charge ticket.
The list of cities requiring these charges is constantly increasing and I have no idea which ones they are or how to go online and buy one, so I don’t go.
I would like to say that I’m not against technology but I feel there should always be alternative methods of payment.
This has shown that if we do resist the changes we don’t like we can prevent ourselves becoming more isolated.
