LETTER: ‘Accepting’ works both ways

Us British born are always being told to be more accepting of immigrants but this works both ways.

I wanted an ingredient which I felt I could purchase in a Polish supermarket so walked in and joined the queue.

All the language spoken was Polish and when I was spoken to I asked if they spoke English. The whole shop went quiet and I was looked at with distrust and suspicion.

I was given a very prompt “No” and the sales assistant went directly on to serve the person behind me. I felt completely intimidated and humiliated and as far as I am concerned will not patronise any “foreign” shops again.

If they want to be accepted, they must behave a little more civilised.
