Leisure services to be improved

Improvements to the area’s council-owned leisure facilities will be paid for by the district council ahead of the new service providers taking over the contract in March.

In December, South Holland District Council announced Parkwood Leisure will be taking over the contract to run the Castle Sports Complex in Spalding and the Peele Leisure Centre in Long Sutton – both currently run by operators 1Life.

When the announcement was made, SHDC said only Parkwood would be putting in money to improve the facilities.

Discussing the project online, Coun Gary Taylor, SHDC portfolio holder for communities and facilities tweeted: “SHDC is investing in facilities and leisure professionals will run it”, in response to calls for refurbishment.

SHDC has since released the following statement from Coun Taylor: “We can confirm that Parkwood Leisure and South Holland District Council will be investing in our leisure sites as part of the new contract.

“Plans have already been discussed as part of the procurement and contract process and further announcements will be made about these developments in the coming months.”

At time of press, the council was not ready to discuss the budget or plans.
