Leaders edged out by chasers

The top two in Spalding and District Snooker League Division Three clashed last week – and it was second-placed Bourne SC B who boosted their title chances with an important win.

They got the better of leaders Pyramid B 4-2 in a Bourne derby that saw Lester Gaunt (O42) impress with a superb 46 break.

However, Gaunt’s efforts were in vain as Jason Bates (O77), Jake Mitchell (O21) and Pete Smith (R7) moved Bourne SC B to within a point of their fierce rivals with a game in hand.

Whittlesey A are just one point further back after beating hosts Gosberton B 5-1, while Consti I slip to fourth after being handed a 4-2 reverse by Pyramid E.

Elsewhere in Division Three, Mark Howlett (O7) scored a 24 break in Services D’s 4-2 win over Consti A and Jim Thompson (scr) made a 21 break in Donington D’s 4-2 loss at Whittlesey B.In Division One, leaders Pyramid D are now five points clear after a 5-1 home success over Holbeach D.

Long Sutton A missed the chance to go second after a 4-2 loss at Services E, with Martin Spencer (O21) settling the game in the final frame.

One point further back, with a game in hand, are Bourne SC A after they dispatched Pyramid F 5-1.Mark Gray (O105) starred with breaks of 39, 24 and 22 in that one.

Meanwhile, Nigel Cherry (O21) bagged a 30 break as Services C picked up a welcome 5-1 victory at Consti B to move away from the bottom two.

Also 5-1 winners were Pyramid D and Holbeach A, seeing off Holbeach D and Donington C respectively.

In Division Two, Consti F have moved six point clear following a handsome 5-1 success over Crowland A.

Justyn Stanley’s (R14) 27 break in the final frame put the seal on the victory.
Nearest rivals Boundary C fell one point further back after winning 4-2 at Pyramid C. Mick Walker (O28) sank a 34 break for the Deepings side in that one.

Tom Horspool (O42) also impressed with a 32 break as Sutton Bridge edged past Services B 4-2, while Chrissie Allwood’s (O14) 24 break was in vain for Donington B as they lost 5-1 to Holbeach B.
