Last 16 woe for Spalding Golf Club’s ladies in Mail on Sunday event

Spalding Golf Club’s ladies have missed out on coveted spot in the final of the Mail on Sunday competition after a narrow loss in the last 16.

Drawn away from home against Benton Hall Golf Club in Essex in round 18, they faced strong opposition on a difficult course in very wet and windy conditions.

Four of the five singles matches went to the 17th or 18th greens, but Benton Hall took full advantage of their home course knowledge and won by 3.5-1.5. Matilde Kedzlie and Lois Williamson brought in the points, while the losing players were Pat West, Elizabeth Holbrook and Dianne Platt.

Spalding fielded a team of ten strong players through the eliminating rounds and achieved some excellent results this year.

It is quite an achievement to get through to the last 16 nationally – and all members at the Surfleet-based club are very proud of this group of talented lady golfers.
