Ladies move five points clear at top

Kettering 1 Spalding Ladies’ 1s 3
The Women’s East League Division Two North West leaders made it five games without defeat to extend their advantage at the top to five points.
The first goal came from Laura Graves via a rebound. Kettering came back moments later to equalise but Spalding continued to press hard, which opened a gap for Charlotte Maplethorpe to pick the ball up in and drive into the D, slotting the ball home.
After a strong team talk from manager Zoe Moore, Spalding maintained possession and continued to cut off Kettering’s advances.
Evie Maltby received a green card but Spalding held strong, despite being a player down. They kept working hard and progress up the pitch saw Erin McMurray get on the back post to tap in a strong cross to make it 3-1.
Player of the match was Karen Timby.

Cambridge South 5s 1 Spalding Ladies’ 3s 2
Jess Worth and Terri Bateman were on target to earn Spalding victory in Division Four North West.
The first goal came after Sam Foston had a good run up to the top of the attacking D. Her straight strike went to the right of the goal where Worth slotted it in for the only goal of the first half.
Cambridge pulled level but Spalding were not fazed and put the pressure on the opposition with attempts on goal from Eloise Hull and Jessica Pilgrim.
Foston was again involved in the second goal when her shot was saved but the ball rolled towards Bateman and her reverse stick shot proved to be the winner.
Cambridge tried to equalise but goalkeeper Eliza Morris made some cracking saves.
