Kindness team needs donations

A group that’s been delivering care packages to some of Spalding’s most vulnerable are looking to hear from businesses who can help provide them with goods.

The Spalding COVID Kindness Team have been delivering essential items after working with businesses including Morrison’s, Green Partners and Smalldean Trading.

But the group says there’s so many requests for help they could deliver ten times the produce they have.

Rob Gibson is one of those who’s part of the Spalding COVID Kindness Team committee.

He said: “We’ve 36 food packages going out today thanks to Morrison’s, but we’ve had over 100 requests for them.

“We do have some produce coming in but if we had ten times more we still could use it.

“We’ve had some amazing donations and help from the community which we’re hugely thankful for, but we could also use more.”

The group has already delivered over 200 essential shopping and medicinal trips for self-isolating residents.

They’ve also set up a phone service to talk to those who otherwise might not have contact with anybody else.

While the COVID Kindness Team has been going for three weeks, the NHS volunteers programme has set up a very similar scheme nationwide which many of the Kindness team have also signed up to.

“It’s going really well,” said Rob. “It shows the best of what they can do.”
