Kindness team provide wonderful birthday treats

Members of the Spalding COVID Kindness Team have been spreading some birthday cheer to those self-isolating.

On a few occasions they’ve found out a vulnerable person has been self-isolating and brought them a cake and a card.

They’ve also rallied a few neighbours to sing Happy Birthday from their doorsteps.

It started after Lesa Jeffrey and daughter Hallie (6) dropped an emergency parcel off to Daphne Page.

She mentioned her 91st birthday was coming up but her family live too far away in Cambridge to attend.

So Lesa and Hallie made a card and cake as well as sang with the local residents.

“She was very tearful and so grateful,” Lesa said. “She was surprised we’d remembered but how could we forget?

“All of this has opened my eyes to the fact you don’t know how many people who live so close might be lonely.

“I’ll keep in touch with Daphne after this is over because she’s so lovely.”

Since Daphne’s cake, others have asked for birthday surprises and the Spalding COVID Kindness Team are working with St John’s School to provide more cards to hand out.

“The children still there are going to create the cards to hand out,” Lesa said.
