A couple affected by cancer held hands as they completed the London Marathon.
Georgie Jones (41) and her husband Paul (50), who has twice beaten testicular cancer, have raised over £12,000 for the Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust and Macmillan.
The pair completed the 26.2 miles in 7hrs 29mins.
“We realised pretty quickly it wasn’t going to go as expected and held hands the majority of the way round,” Georgie said. “We started right at the back, we must have been about 40,000th.
“We took it pretty steady and it just became about finishing it.
“With the heat it was really hard and gruelling. They were running out of water.
“But Londoners were fantastic giving us water when there wasn’t any and ice.
“Everyone was cheering you on.
“We walked with my step children for the last three miles and I saw my parents and son and that was just massive for us.
“I just want to thank everyone whose helped us raise a combined £12,000.
“Strangers have been stopping us in the streets and giving us money and it all adds up.
“We got there in the end!”
