Kearns delighted as Spalding Town 2nd blow Moulton Harrox away in one-sided derby

Spalding Town 2nd continued their stellar start to the South Lincs and Border League Division season with an emphatic seven-wicket victory over rivals Moulton Harrox on Saturday.

Hosts Town won the toss at the Memorial Field and opted to field first – a decision that paid immediate dividends for skipper Mike Kearns.

Steve Norris (1-8) and Nohman Ahmad (3-15) ripped through the visitors’ top order, while Jamie Juckes (3-12) clean bowled Moulton danger man Matt Barnett with a superb in-swinging yorker from his first delivery.

Harrox were reeling at 30-6 – and that soon became 43 all out, with nobody making double figures.

Spalding chased down their target with ease as Matt Gill (11 not out) steered them to 44-3, although Jack Barnett (2-15) did bowl very well.

Town captain Kearns said: “Our fielding, catching and team spirit were outstanding. Moulton are a good side, but today was just our day.

“I’m delighted that the team are one step nearer to survival in this division.”
