It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas – host of light switch ons this weekend

Christmas officially starts in Spalding this Friday as the town’s Christmas lights are switched on amid a host of festivities.

There will be a plethora of stalls and games in the Market Place where a stage is being set up.
The Spalding Academy rock band, choir and ukulele club will all be appearing as will some of those starring in this year’s South Holland Centre pantomime Snow White.
A spokesman for the district council said: “The town centre will be transformed into a winter wonderland, where visitors can immerse themselves in the holiday spirit.
“The evening will feature a variety of attractions, including a Christmas craft station where attendees can create their own decorations, and seasonal craft and gift stalls offering unique items perfect for Christmas shopping.
“Food lovers can indulge in festive treats from the numerous street food stalls.
“Children and families will be delighted to meet Tinkerbell and Buddy The Elf, who will be performing on stage.
“The event will also showcase live music from local school choirs, bands, and singers, adding to the festive atmosphere. Visitors can support local charities by participating in fun games and activities.
“A highlight of the evening will be the chance to visit Santa in his grotto at Calthrops Solicitors, an experience organised by The South Holland District Council Chairman. Additionally, a fancy dress competition will take place, with the winner earning the honour of switching on the new Christmas lights alongside Santa at 7.30pm.”

  • Donington is getting into the Christmas spirit with a day of events on Sunday (December 1).
It all starts with the Santa Fun Run in the town centre from 9.30am.
The church, Market Place and community centre will have a host of events, stalls games and food and drink options to look around from 10am to 3pm.
Santa himself will be in the community centre.
The day will finish with a carol service in Market Place at 3.30pm.
  • Crowland’s Christmas Lights Switch on festivities will be from 2pm to 7pm on Saturday (Novermber 30).
As well as Santa in his grotto there’s fair rides and a host of stalls in the town centre around Trinity Bridge.
  • Uncle and Auntie Grinch and Elsa will join Santa at Holbeach’s Christmas Fayre this Saturday (November 30) from 1pm to 6pm.
High Street will be packed with attractions and stalls as well as a selection of food and drink.
There will also be entertainment from ‘For The Love of Music’, Mirror Man and Bubbles at the parish council event.
