Isobel and Ellisha lead the way in latest South Lincs Competitive Swimming Club spree

The third weekend of Lincolnshire County Championships saw South Lincs Competitive Swimming Club collect a further 21 medals.

The Spalding-based club clinched six gold, nine silver and six bronze medals at Grantham on Sunday, at an event that also saw numerous club records and regional qualifying times (RQT) clocked by the swimmers.

The success story started with Isobel Gosling, who had a tremendous day of swimming and collected gold in the 200m butterfly in a new girls’ 11 years age group club record of 2.41.03mins.

That was a personal best (PB) by more than 14 seconds and a time that sees Gosling move into the top ten in the British rankings in this event.

In a tense 50m butterfly final, Gosling also swam strongly in the second half of the race to win gold by just 1/100th of a second in a new PB of 34.78secs.

To round out the day, she also took silver in the 50m breaststroke in a time of 41.42secs and bronze in the 100m freestyle in 1.08.47mins.

Ellisha Cookson also maintained her outstanding form over the weekend, claiming gold in the girls’ 15 years age group 50m breaststroke, totally dominating the heats and finals.

Her heat time of 34.65secs was a new club record and her finals swim saw Cookson win the senior championship title.

She went on to claim gold in the girls’ 200m butterfly in a new PB time of 2.28.85mins and added two silver medals to her collection in the finals of the 100m freestyle and

50m butterfly – both in new PB times of 1.00.97mins and 30.62mins respectively.

Meanwhile, Aurinija Maliauskaite collected a hat-trick of medals in the girls’ 15 years age group.

She led a South Lincs clean sweep of the medals in the 100m freestyle, claiming gold in a PB best time of 1.00.07mins.

There was also a new PB for Maliauskaite in the 50m breaststroke as she took the silver medal in a time of 37.26secs and to finish the day she added a bronze medal in the 50m butterfly in a time of 31.09secs.

Daisy Rummery then joined the roll call of South Lincs swimmers who have become county champions in 2019. She swept to victory and the top of the podium in the girls’ 15 years age group 100m backstroke with a new PB time of 1.10.62mins to clinch her first ever county gold medal.

Emma Croker was on fine sprint form over the day too, as she collected a hat-trick of silver medal in the girls’ 14 years age group.

She started her campaign in the 100m backstroke by clocking a PB time of 1.08.19mins to collect her first medal.

Croker went on to post a further PB in the 100m freestyle, with an outstanding time of 59.40secs in the final, and set a new club record in the process for her second medal.

Her third medal came in the 50m butterfly, where she improved her own club record with a heat time of 29.43secs.

Another to impress was Nitesh Anbazhagan, who collected two medals on the day.

He swam to a bronze medal in the boys’ 13 years age group 50m butterfly with a time of 33.33secs in the heats to set a PB.

Anbazhagan also went on to collect the silver medal in the 50m breaststroke with a time of 37.46secs.

Another on the podium was Charlotte Ciuberkyte, who collected her first-ever county championship medal as she fought her way back through the field of the girls’ 13 years age group 50m breaststroke to claim silver in a new PB of 38.33secs.

Elsewhere, Oliver Sorrell collected a bronze medal in the boys’ 12 years age group 200m butterfly with a huge 11-second PB to stop the clock in 2.59.27mins.

Dusty Saines also produced a new PB in the girls’ 15 years age group 100m freestyle to snatch the bronze medal in a time of 1.03.02mins.

The final medal secured saw Edward Skells deliver a tremendous swim in the boys’ 15 years age group 100m backstroke to also claim a bronze and set a new three second PB of 1.09.35mins.

The South Lincs swimmers also made a further 24 finals, where they placed from fourth to eighth position. Finals achieved by swimmers not already mentioned were Frank Lamb, Lucas Garlike, Atticus Strickland, Erin Siggee, Beatrice Finch, Andre Ubaviciute, Anya Strickland, Mollie Briggs, Esther Skells and Luke Blanchard.
