Indoor bowlers get campaign off to winning start

Spalding Indoor Bowls Club started the Mixed County League season with a 20-shot win at home to Stamford.
Spalding were always in control, mainly thanks to the rink skipped by Dan Mills, with Gill Hayden, Maisie Belding and Ian Stafford, who won 32-9. Spalding won 81-61 to secure ten of the available match points.

The ladies started their defence of their Trudy Bates title with a home fixture against Boston. Spalding started the stronger of the two teams but by 15 ends trailed by a single shot.
However, Spalding finished well and won by 14 shots (85-71), winning on two rinks and drawing on another for an 11-3 win overall. The top winning rink was skipped by Maggie Wheatley, with Jean Patterson, Sue Slayven and Trish Stafford, who won 32-16.

The Men’s County League campaign started with a home win against Grantham. Spalding were dominant from the outset and won on all rinks for an overall 14-0 success. Spalding also won the aggregate by 62 shots (112-50). The top winning rink was skipped by Dominic McVittie, with Tony Westland, Max Butters and David Nunney, who had an impressive 37-12 victory.
