Spalding native Charlotte Taylor has been selected for the Great Britain squad for next month’s next month’s IAAF World Championships in London.
Taylor, of Nene Valley Harriers, will compete in the women’s 10,000m at the Olympic Stadium event, which runs from August 4-13.
That means the South Holland ace will be rubbing shoulders with the likes of reigning 5000m and 10,000m World Champion Mo Farah, reigning long jump world champion Greg Rutherford and
Olympic bronze medallist from Sophie Hitchon in the 78-strong squad.
Performance Director for British Athletics, Neil Black said: “This feels bigger for us than Rio.
“London 2017 is the major global sporting event this year and will be the biggest occasion the country has seen since 2012.
“We’ve selected some incredibly talented athletes, and in many events there have been some close calls. It’s now up to them to grasp this opportunity and produce performances that will make the whole nation proud.”
The call-up is very much deserved for Taylor, who has enjoyed a sensational season representing San Francisco University over in America.
Only last month she won the NCAA 10,000m Championship in Eugene Oregon, while Taylor also producing a stunning run at the Stanford Invitational meet in California back in April.
Taylor, who won gold in the World under-20 Triathlon Championship back in 2013, also finished in fourth place in the European under-23 Cross Country Championships in 2016.
