On Sunday, September 17, Steve Hill, Harry Mycock, Dominic McVittie and Martin Spencer finished an already impressive outdoor bowls season by winning the Midland Counties Fours Championship at East Leake Bowls Club in Nottinghamshire.
The quartet who play their domestic bowls at Royal Mail Cart were Lincolnshire’s representatives in the Midland Counties Championships after winning the county fours title earlier in the season and certainly had a target on their backs after winning the national title at Leamington Spa last month.
In the semi-final, Hill, Mycock, McVittie and Spencer played against Elliot Guthrie, Calvin Rawson, Ben Powell and Jack Emmerson from Nottinghamshire.
A good start from the national champions saw them race into a 9-0 and 17-5 lead but despite a slight comeback from the Nottinghamshire team, Hill, Mycock, McVittie and Spencer booked their place in the final with a 19-11 win.
Their opposition in the final were Kenny Muir, Willy McGinn, Alan Muir and Alistair Melville from Northamptonshire who lost in the quarter final at the national championships last month.
Another strong start from Hill, Mycock, McVittie and Spencer saw them score seven shots on one end which helped them into a 19-3 lead.
Although the Northamptonshire team reduced the deficit somewhat, Hill, Mycock, McVittie and Spencer were always comfortable before winning the final 22-15 and the Midland Counties fours title.
This made it an impressive treble as they added the Midland Counties title to the county and national titles won earlier in the season.
They hope to add the British Isles title next year when they represent England at the British Isles Championships in June.
