Danny Hussey heaped praise on Holbeach United match-winner Jonny Lockie after his second-half strike sank South Holland rivals Pinchbeck United on Easter Monday.

The Tigers broke away from a Pinchbeck corner mid-way through the second period and Lockie fired a strike home to make it five goals in his last seven games.

Pinchbeck missed a few golden opportunities in the first half, both falling to Charlie West, but Holbeach boss Hussey felt his side were good value for the win and highlighted Lockie’s importance.

He said: “I think we probably deserved the points on the day.

“It was a great goal to settle the game, too.

“Adam Jackson headed their corner clear and Jonny, Will Bird and Cal Davies broke with real pace and the finish was top notch.

“Jonny has done really well since coming here and you can tell he’s enjoying his football.

“I know that he’s pleased that we’re giving him a chance to play regularly and, from my point of view, he’s been great for us.

“Hopefully he’ll re-sign in the summer and carry his form into next season.”

Knights boss Ian Dunn agreed that Holbeach were worthy winners and his side are now just two points clear of their rivals with one game left.

A downbeat Dunn said: “To be honest, Holbeach deserved to win.

“For the first time in a while, I felt like we were outbattled and outworked.

“We had a tougher game than them on Saturday and maybe that told, as I felt we had an extra ten or 15 per cent to give.

“We had our chances, but once again we were unable to take them. That has been our problem for most of the season.

“There was probably one shot on target of note in the match and they scored it, so credit to them.

“We didn’t do enough on the day and it felt like they wanted it a little bit more than us, which isn’t something you can often say about our team.”
