It was a day to remember for the Andrews family on Sunday as Spalding Town 3rd enjoyed a huge win in South Lincs and Border League Division Two.
Captain Carl Andrews shone with a superb 156 not out as Town posted 240-9 batting first at Spalding Grammar School, before his daughter Macey Andrews took 5-30 to knock opponents Sleaford 3rd over for 150 in reply.
The victory bagged Spalding a maximum 20-point haul and sends them top of the early standings.
Having been put into bat, Spalding did lose Peter Cook (0), Ollie Dring (13), Jack Sawyer (12) and Nigel Gardner (0) quite cheaply.
However, Sleaford didn’t account for a monstrous innings from Carl Andrews.
He cracked 20 fours and eight sixes en-route to his stunning century, which now makes him the top run scorer in the division.
Lewis Collishaw (22), Ed Barnes (4), Macey Andrews (0), Martin Sawyer (10), Tom Decamps (0) and Sophie Smith (0 not out) all kept him company at some point, with Town closing on 240-9.
Sleaford’s reply started well, with opener Jake Henderson making a solid 44.
But they lost wickets at regular intervals, thanks largely to Macey Andrews’ fantastic five-for.
All five of her wickets shattered the stumps of Sleaford batsmen, whileCook (2-4), Barnes (1-3) and Carl Andrews (1-43) did the rest of the damage.
- Moulton Harrox suffered a 80-run defeat against visitors Graves Park in South Lincs and Border League Division One on Saturday.
Park made 176-8 batting first at Harrox field, with a super 76-run stand from openers Chris King (41) and Mitch Griffiths (51) proving key.
Carl Lamming (2-46), Maxwell Cusack (2-57), Simon Juckes (2-18), Louis Greetham (1-26) and Matt Barnett (1-19) took the wickets.
Harrox never really got going in reply and slumped to 96 all out in 36.1 overs.
Juckes hit a defiant 39, but Jack Ashton (4-20), Martin Hodgson (3-21) and Lewis Skinner (2-25) all bowled well to secure the away side the points.
- Spalding Town 2nd suffered a 56-run defeat at Skegness 2nd in the South Lincs and Border League Cup on Saturday.
A brilliant 113 from Tim Hughes and Reece Brant’s 59 steered Skeg to 224-8 in their 40 overs, with Jonah Gill (3-35) and Harry DeCamps (2-56) the pick of the Town bowlers.
Town gave it a good go in reply, with young opener Ethan Lawrence making a fine 61 and skipper Matt Gill chipping in with 24. But they ultimately fell short of their tricky target, scoring 168-8.
- Pinchbeck enjoyed a comfortable ten-wicket victory over a youthful Uffington side in South Lincs and Border League Division Two.
They bowled their hosts out for just 68 on Saturday, with James Langford (4-16) and Mike Knight (3-23) on-song with the ball.
Pinchbeck needed just 12.3 overs to knock those runs off and are now second in the standings.
