Thousands of fans packed into the Adrian Flux Arena on Saturday where the 2L Stock Car World Final took centre stage.
More than 70 drivers were in action and, as would be expected with such a large number of top international stars in the world’s toughest form of motorsport, the action at King’s Lynn was quite simply amazing all night.
Long Sutton’s Simon Venni was South Holland’s best chance of success, but he suffered problems early on and was lapped by the leader Deane Mayes with around four laps left.
However, keen to get back on the lead lap, Venni spun Mayes out of the race which handed the lead to eventual winner Max Stott.
Stott came home in ninth place – one spot behind Holbeach’s Wes Starmer, who had a great weekend.
Starmer was not in the world final at the start of the day, but a great performance in the 28-car last chance race saw him come home in fifth place and get onto the back of the grid in the big race.
And, despite starting at the rear of what was another 38-car grid, a fantastic drive saw him move well up the order by the end of the race.
More good performances came Starmer’s way on Sunday, when he got a fantastic third-place finish in the race everyone wants to do well in – the Steve Newman Memorial Race.
Venni came into this race on the back of a great fourth place finish in an earlier heat, but he had a rough ride in the Memorial race which included a Wall of Death type manouvere.
Stock Car and Banger Racing returns to King’s Lynn on Monday with the annual Crash for Cancer event.
