Plans are being put in place in the hope Holbeach could host a bumper Christmas celebration later this year.
Holbeach parish councillor Sam Jackson told last week’s meeting of the authority last week that he was working with All Saints’ Church on making the annual St Nicholas Christmas Fair an event for the whole town.
Among the early ideas are the closing off most of the High Street for attractions with an ice rink among the mooted proposals, though the quoted £6,000 cost of that may be a stumbling block.
Coun Jackson though said he wanted to work with local businesses and organisations to see what the town could do.
“We’re looking at sponsorship and looking at where’s there’s money that we might be able to use.
“This is a great chance for us to work with business and really put on a celebration at Christmas. It’s something for the people of Holbeach to look forward to.
“It would be good to offer something back after the turbulent times we’ve had.”
Coun Jackson said he’d look to see if some of the money allocated by the district council to Holbeach for events could be used.
Coun Tracey Carter also vowed to donate some of her allocated district budget towards the event.
The possibility of holding live music in the High Street was also mentioned with discussions pledged with those that put on the annual Holbeach Festival in the summer.
The parish council vowed to get behind the event.
Coun Peter Sparkes said: “I think it’s a brilliant idea.”
