Holbeach United’s Community Sports Academy’s Summer Sixes are a massive success

Holbeach United’s second annual ‘Summer Sixes’ tournament has been hailed as a massive success.

The Tigers welcomed an impressive 72 teams, ranging from under-17 to under-12, to their King’s Academy base at Penny Hill over the weekend, with 32 playing on Saturday and 40 on Sunday.

Although no home teams walked away with a trophy – the under-12 side did make the final but were defeated – there was plenty to celebrate for Holbeach with the event raising a healthy sum for the club coffers.

A new club mascot, named “Whiskers” by one of the Tigers’ youngsters after a competition run by the club, was also unveiled on the day.

Holbeach United’s Community Sports Academy vice chairman Stuart Clark admitted that he couldn’t have been happier with how the weekend went – and is already looking forward to the next one.

He said: “It was an amazing two days. To have 72 teams at the club over two days was brilliant.

“The place was rammed with people and it was absolutely great to see.

“We’ve been inundated with emails and messages from other clubs – and all have said that they loved the event.

“It was simply a massive success and we can’t wait for next year’s event already.

“The mascot also went down a storm! There’s only really one place you can get them from – and that’s the same place the top teams have to go.

“There’s a great deal of expense involved, but we feel it was worth every penny.

“We ran a competition within the club and one of the young lads came up with Whiskers, which we all loved.

“Although we didn’t have any trophy winners, the weekend couldn’t have gone any better.

“It has made a healthy profit for the club and we’re thankful to everybody that took part.”
