Holbeach United are going to need to be a little bit smarter against their upcoming opposition in the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League Division One North.
That’s the view of joint-boss Danny Clifton, who reckons the Tigers need to look at tweaking their approach after Saturday’s 4-1 home defeat against Huntingdon Town.
Clifton doesn’t believe his side have been outplayed by anybody this season, but feels that his side are playing too much football in their own half – and being punished for it.
Games against big hitters Heacham on Wednesday night and Norwich CBS (away, Saturday, 3pm) represent tough tests for Holbeach and the co-boss wants to see a slight shift in approach.
“I still maintain that nobody has outplayed us this season,” said Clifton. “That’s not why we’ve been getting beat.
“Saturday against Huntingdon was a good example, we got punished for every mistake we made at the back when we played too much football in our own half.
“When we’re facing the likes of Heacham and Norwich we need to get the ball up the pitch, win it back and then play our football.
“Little mistakes are adding up for us at the moment and we’re also not taking our chances, while other teams seem to punish us and take theirs.”
Providing they come through the Heacham game, the Tigers have no new injury concerns with Fenn Storey and Callum Dalliday closing on returns.
They also visit Huntingdon next Tuesday (7.45pm).
