Holbeach United get their attitude spot on as they ease to Chenecks victory

Northampton ON Chenecks 1

Four-midable Holbeach United proved they can roll up their sleeves and defeat dogged mid-table opposition on Saturday as they saw off Northampton ON Chenecks 4-1 at Carter’s Park.

The Tigers, who are now unbeaten in 13 games since going down 4-3 at Leicester Nirvana on September 21, kept themselves in the UhlSport UCL Premier Division title mix with a strong home showing.

Jon Fairweather, Joe Smith and Liam Adams fired Danny Hussey’s side into a 3-0 half-time lead, before a penalty gave the visitors a whiff of a comeback after the break.

The Tigers soon restored their three-goal cushion, however, as Fairweather grabbed his second to seal a 12th win from 19 league games this season.

Boss Hussey, who feels that his side often struggle against the so-called lesser sides, was very pleased with what he saw.

“I thought the lads did well,” said the Holbeach chief. “The pitch didn’t help either side, but we still performed to a good standard.

“The lads worked really hard against a Chenecks side that looked a lot better than the league table suggests – I’d argue they should be in the top eight.

“We created plenty and took our chances really well. It was nice to see ‘Jonno’ get a couple of goals, while Joe has been playing very well and deserved his goal.

“Liam Adams has also been playing to a high standard, so I was pleased to see him back on the scoresheet.

“The run we’re on is very, very impressive and to have not lost since September shows we’re doing something right here.”

Fairweather’s first goal was a close-range finish after a Spencer Tinkler knock-down, while Smith headed home number two under considerable pressure.

Adams then finished off a Will Bird cross for 3-0, before Fairweather bagged number four – his second of the day – not long after the away penalty found the net.

Holbeach next host Boston Town on Wednesday night (7.45pm).

Tigers: Drury, Wilson, T Smith, N Jackson, Fairweather, A Jackson, J Smith, Tinkler, Frew, Bird, Adams. Subs used: Setchell, Withers, Lockie. Not used: Lovelace, Oliver.

Attendance: 72.
