Holbeach United’s squad for the new season could soon be complete as they step up their interest in two transfer targets.
Tigers boss Darren Jarvis has revealed his interest in ex-Oadby Town winger Louis Hamilton and Wisbech Town wideman Billy Smith – and wants to land “at least one” of them in the next week.
Pacy attacker Hamilton scored against Holbeach for Oadby last season and has previously played for Stamford. Jarvis has been tracking him all summer – and will talk terms at training on Saturday.
Smith, meanwhile, is a player the Tigers chief rates highly, having managed him in his last job at Peterborough Northern Star. Jarvis believes the 29-year-old wants to sign for the side that has the best chance of winning the league this year – and hopes he plumps for a move to Carter’s Park.
“I’d hope to have at least one of them signed by next week,” admitted Jarvis. “But make no mistake, we want both of them here.
“Louis is training with us on Saturday before going away on holiday. Hopefully we can get him committed before then.
“I’d love to bring him here, he’s a very exciting and talented player.
“Billy is more of a maverick and is capable of moments of brilliance.
“We’re making a big effort to bring him here.
“Some people may be surprised, but Billy is 29 now – and has never won the UCL. I know he really wants to achieve that, so he’ll go where he thinks he has the best chance of doing that. Hopefully he’ll decide that place is Holbeach.”
One player that definitely won’t be pulling on black and yellow next season is Charlie Sanders.
The striker, who scored twice in 11 appearances at the back end of last season, has joined Brett Whaley’s Wisbech Town.
Jarvis added: “We wish Charlie all the best, it’s a good move for both parties.
“He did a great job for us at a difficult time last season and there’s no ill feeling there.”
Holbeach regrouped for pre-season on Tuesday.
