Holbeach set to host new ‘historical centre’

A new ‘historical centre’ telling the story of Holbeach and South Holland looks set to open next month.

The free-to-enter attraction set to be called Memory Lane is pencilled in to be in a town centre business, initially for six months.

Coun Tracey Carter says she decided to look to open the display after being impressed with the exhibition Linden Secker curated for Holbeach’s Jubilee celebrations.

He and both the district and county councils are involved in turning the as yet unannounced property into the mini-museum.

It’s being funded via the Town Centre Improvement Fund and will be run by volunteers.

“People love their history and we’ve taken a short lease in one of the properties in the town centre,” Coun Carter said. “I’m hoping to get it all ready for mid-August and there’s a couple of volunteers who have agreed to help me man it while it’s open.

“I’m working with Lincolnshire County Council who are working on making it all look official and like a museum and the district council are involved.

“It’s going to be about Holbeach but also about the history of South Holland as a whole so hopefully it will give people outside of the town a reason to come and visit.

“We’ve agreed a rent for six months It will be free entry though we will request donations to help towards the running costs.”
