Holbeach remembers

Holbeach’s Armistice Commemorations began with a walking tour around the town’s Cemetery Chapels.

Around 50 people were given the stories behind the graves of the fallen from war who are buried in the town, courtesy of the research from Linden Secker and Mike Brett.

At each grave a cross was laid and a short tribute read on Saturday.

The town’s remembrance continued the following day with a parade from 2pm to All Saints Parish Church.

Silhouettes of 10 “Tommies” were in the pews and tributes read out to each.

Among those coming through the town was Harold Payne of the Anglia Motel in Fleet and his tank.

Martin Rickerd from Holbeach Royal British Legion, said: “It was a very good turnout and certainly people have been inspired by the centenary. We’re still counting up how much we collected today but it seems people have been very generous.”
