Holbeach pirates and mermaids rise to challenge

Team building, cleaning and concocting “grog” were just some of the fun activities on offer to primary school pupils at a pirates and mermaids day.
William Stukeley Primary School in Holbeach invited youngsters in the foundation stage and key stage one to go in dressed in line with the theme and children did themselves proud with some fantastic costumes.
They then rotated round a variety of activities including team building activities such as Steal the Treasure, Pass the Rum, Fold the Sails and Cross the River.
They were also set the task of “curing scurvy” by creating their own fruit juice grog and learned about chemical reactions between vinegar, lemonade and coke in a “clean the treasure” challenge.
Children also had the chance to make their own flags and learn about the meanings of colours and symbols.
Andrea Marshall, from the school, said: “Children had a really enjoyable day and we’ve had reports of some raiding the juice cabinets at home.”
