British heavyweight Tyson Fury went down a storm with guests at Spalding Round Table’s annual boxing night fundraiser.
Over £10,000 was raised for local good causes – taking the total over the event’s 21 years to more than £200,000.
Fury received rapturous applause by predicting in his speech that he would knock out world title rival Wladimir Klitschko inside “six or seven rounds” and see off Christian Hammer inside five rounds on Saturday.
This year’s Round Table boxing event chairman Tom Bradshaw said: “Tyson was a really good guest – he couldn’t do enough for us. He said he would come back to the event for free next year when he’s world title holder!”
He added: “I’ve had many people say it was the best event in years and we’ve already had six table bookings for next year.”
The bouts were between the British Army boxing team and The Police Community Clubs of Great Britain.
There was a sparring exhibition by Spalding Amateur Boxing Club, which received a £471 donation from the Table. Diabetes charity JDRF was also supported as thanks for tote helpers.
