There will be something for everyone at Spalding’s popular TulipMania event this weekend.
The Springfields Festival and TulipMania will include the usual spectacular spring flower displays in Springfields Gardens, with an extra 10,000 tulips planted this year in celebration of South Holland’s bulb growing heritage.
On Saturday the Tulipmania procession starts in the festival arena at 2.30pm. Free face painting will be provided by Face Art for children wanting a tulip on their cheek before the procession.
Children’s favourite Peppa Pig will be in the gardens throughout the day and will be joining in the procession.
Then, on Sunday, over 250 cars will participate in the Springfields Classic Car Show.
Throughout the weekend there will a craft fair and trade stands, children’s fairground rides and musical entertainment provided by local artists, bands and community groups.
There will be miniature train rides through the woodlands, military vehicle rides provided by supporters of the Royal Anglian Regiment Benevolent Fund and lots of other things to do.
Tulip Radio has worked with event organisers to arrange the TulipMania activities. In particular Tulip Radio has asked local schools, clubs and community organisations to take groups of children (or adults) along to take part in the Tulipmania Procession.
Groups have been asked to create tulip costumes or decorate small floats to make the procession more colourful.
Tulip Radio has also organised a Prince and Princess competition and the winners will lead the procession. They will be joined by this year’s Flower Queen Amy Cook and her deputy Kimberley Fisher.
The Spalding Marching Ambassadors band will provide the music around the procession route.
Admission is £5 for adults and £4 for seniors on Saturday and on Sunday all tickets are £3. Accompanied children under 16 go free.
The show is open from 9am to 5pm on Saturday and from 10am-4pm on Sunday.
