A group that aims to promote cycling says it’s continuing its work throughout the pandemic in a bid to “look for a better deal for Spalding’s present and future cyclists”.
PEDALS has been campaigning for better and safer cycling facilities for over 37 years.
And they’ve continued to do so throughout 2020.
That includes holding small, socially distanced outdoor steering group meetings when government guidance has allowed them to do so.
Among the group’s activities during 2020 have been requests for new signage for the Daffodil Route which South Holland District Council is planning to develop and working with East Midlands Railway on creating a secure storage facility that could hold 30 bikes at Spalding Station.
The group is campaigning for new cycling paths between Pinchbeck Church and Spalding Cemetery as part of the Spalding Western Relief Road developments in that area and a path and parking at Springfields.
They’ve also provided consultation for the Spalding Town Centre steering group and Lincolnshire County Council’s bid for government money as part of the Emergency Active Travel Fund.
The group’s chair David Jones (pictured) said: “We are encouraged by the number of people who follow PEDALS as members of our Facebook group, and as members of our emailing and snail-mail circulation lists.
“A small group is actively involved in campaigning on behalf of Spalding’s cyclists. Unfortunately that small group has become smaller in recent years because of changes in personal circumstances and this has limited our activities.
“During 2021 we would like to continue our work on projects. We will always welcome more people to bring their experiences, ideas, and energies to look for a better deal for Spalding’s present and future cyclists.”
