Gosberton rallies round for local girl’s wedding attended by the Duchess of York

The Duchess of York was in attendance as a Gosberton girl got married in the village last weekend.

Florence Hill married Andrew Ferguson at St Peter and St Paul’s Church on Saturday.

The groom’s half sister, Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, posted details of the wedding on social media according to national newspaper The Daily Mail, including a picture of the couple travelling on Andrew’s tractor decked out with vegetables from the church to the reception at Cressy Hall, just outside Gosberton Risegate.

The service at St Peter and St Paul’s was carried out by Rev Paul Hardingham.

Rev Ian Walters, the incumbent priest at St Peter and St Paul’s who was also in attendance, said: “It was a lovely day. The Duchess of York, like many of the guests, got changed beforehand at the Bell Pub on the High Street in the village.

“The church was decorated beautifully by a group of local people who know the family and it looks absolutely fantastic. We’ve still got the decorations up in fact.

“Quite a few people came out to watch which was lovely to see.

“It was a great occasion for all the regulars at the church and was just a nice and uplifting event to see in the village.”

Seventeen senior boys from Spalding Parish Church Choir were invited to sing at the wedding.

The choir’s Nick Pitts, said: “The boys sang a selection of music including ‘Make me a Channel of Your Peace’ and ‘Love Divine’ before the service whilst the guests were arriving.

“During the signing of the registers the choir sang ‘Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring’, (music by J.S.Bach).

“After the ceremony, Sarah spent ten minutes chatting to the choir boys, and they had a number of photographs taken with her.

“It was a great privilege to meet and chat with her.”

Sarah Ferguson was married to Andrew, Duke of York, the second son of the Queen and is the mother of Beatrice and Eugenie who are ninth and 10th in line to the British throne respectively.
