Giving thanks to volunteers in Holbeach

A free meal to say thanks to volunteers in Holbeach is in the works.

Last year, councillors Tracey Carter, Francis Biggadike and Nick Worth hosted a free buffet and thank-you gathering, paid for by themselves, for many of the volunteers who help within Holbeach.

They said they wanted to show their personal appreciation to the people who, alongside them, care so much about the town.

“Over 100 people attended the event we hosted,” said Coun Carter.

“We loved having the opportunity to say thank you to these wonderful people, we therefore decided we wanted to hold it as an annual event.”

Each year, new groups and volunteers join the army of helpers. Through the work that the three councillors do they come into contact with most of them but want to ensure that no one is forgotten – therefore they ask if anyone knows someone that they want to ensure is invited to get in touch with them.

“We decided the format of the event was very successful so it will be run along a very similar style – a relaxed, basic get together while offering a chance for the guests to be served and provided a free buffet from us. It also offers the groups the chance to chat and share ideas and thoughts” add Nick.

The event is planned for Sunday, March 10, 12.30pm- 3.30pm at the Holbeach Hub.

Francis, who has spent many years working in the town, knew many of the guests over a number of years.

She added: “it’s important that new emerging helpers are offered thanks and also encouragement from us too; each and every one is valued so highly by all three of us”.

Anyone who would like to suggest any people to be invited can get in touch with Coun Carter via email on [email protected] or call 07719 189528.
