Gaunt opens with a win but leaders Services C hit back

Elliott Gaunt (O28) hit a 32 break on his way to a 96-70 win to earn Bourne SC B the lead in their Spalding and District Snooker League match at home to Division One leaders Services C.

However, the visitors stormed back to win 5-1, thanks to victories from Kev Fitter (O14), Nigel Cherry (O7) twice and Shane Cummins (O14).
Club rivals Services A stayed within four points, thanks to a 5-1 win of their own against Bourne SC A, led by Chris Dunmore (O35) who stormed back from 70 points down to win 90-77, including a 24 break. Vince Fitter (O35) matched that break in his 71-19 success and there were also wins for Phil Spencer (O7), Jake Haslam (O14) and Kev Emerson (R7). Mark Gray (O105) hit breaks of 33 and 25 but it was to no avail in a 133-98 defeat.
Holbeach D are third after a 4-2 win against Pyramid C, while Boundary A moved away from the lower reaches of the table thanks to a 4-2 win at Donington C. Neil Reynolds (O56) – including breaks of 32 and 20 – and Mick Pearl (O21) – with a break of 40 – gave the hosts a 2-0 lead but the visitors hit back to take victory thanks to a match-winning black ball 62-60 win for Andy Mowforth (O7) in the third game against Shaun Pickering (R14). John Tidswell (O28) and Elliott Cox (R7) secured the remaining frames.
Martin Deacon’s (O7) 25 clearance set Consti G on their way to a 4-2 win at Holbeach C. He won his game 52-30 and successes from Joe Garland (scr) and Ady Sibley (O28) wrapped things up before Mark Gregory (O42) and Paul Ashton (R14) hit back with home wins.
A last-frame win earned Consti E a 4-2 win against Sutton Bridge. Simon Law (O7) put the home side ahead only for Mick Tiller (scr) to level. Jack Chilvers (O7) restored the Consti advantage only for Glenn Ryan (O28) to make it 2-2.
The evening’s other match ended with a resounding 5-1 win for Consti H against Holbeach E.
Match of the day in Division Two saw Pyramid A open a gap at the top of the table with a 4-2 win against second-placed Holbeach A. The visitors twice led, thanks to wins from Steve Dent (scr) and Derek Beba (R7) but Michael Twell (R14) and Norman Vaughan (O21) set up a winner-takes-all clash between John Twell (scr) and Mathew Smith (O35) that saw the home player prevail 69-36.
Consti B closed in on the top two with a 4-2 win against Donington A. John Christian (R7) won the opener 69-38 but John George (scr) levelled. Mick Johnson (O28) hit a 22 break in his 82-16 win and John Keeton (O7) got the important third win before Jim Thompson’s (O7) 60-48 consolation for the visitors.
Pyramid B moved away from the lower reaches of the table thanks to a pair of black ball wins to gain a 4-2 win at Services B.
Richard Clark (O7) and Alan Hansard (scr) traded wins before Dennis Pearson (scr) 42-41 and Darren Hibbins (scr) 39-36 held their nerve to make sure of victory. Jason Rose (o21) hit back for the hosts in the last frame.
James Parrott’s (O7) 25 clearance looked to have pushed Gosberton D to victory against Whittlesey C.
His win followed an opening frame black-ball win for Keith Lungley (O7) and made it 2-0. However, it only served to stir the visitors into action and wins from Gary Thewliss (scr), Jason Bloomfield (O21) and Simon Parker (O7) brought a 4-2 win for their team.
Warren Peel (scr) got Consti F off to a winning start at Holbeach B but that was as good as it got with Neil Harvey (O14), Adi Liquorish (R14), Charlie Mullane (R21) and Pete Mullane (O28) all in winning form for the home team.
Pyramid D whitewashed Services D 6-0 and there was a 4-2 win for Gosberton A at Donington B, where Alan Jackson (O7) won the decisive fifth frame 64-61 against Mick Clark (R7).
With the top two teams in Division Three not playing, Whittlesey B missed the chance to close the gap when they crashed to a surprise 5-1 defeat at third-bottom Pyramid E.
It was a good evening for the teams at the foot of the table with wins for all three.
Donington D remain in last place, despite a 4-2 win at fourth-from-bottom Gosberton B, who had led 2-0. Merv Pattinson (R21) and Simon Swinson (R14) put them in control, only for Pat Taylor (R14), Dan Sandy (scr) and Paul Whyte (R7) to snatch the majority of the points.
Consti D avoided dropping into the wooden-spoon position with a 4-2 win against Consti J. Adam Braybrook (scr) and Les Andrew (scr) had put the ‘away’ side ahead, with Martin Perkins (O21) hitting a 31 break to keep his team in it. Ray Digby’s (R28) 64-54 win levelled it at 2-2 before Tom Digby (R7) decided things 68-45 in the final frame.
There was also a win for Consti C, who triumphed 4-2 at Whittlesey A after wins in the first three games for Mick Peet (R28), John Walker (R21) and Dave Banister (scr). Steve Jennings (O21) and Malc Bruce (scr) ensured the final score was close.
