Free keep active courses for people living with dementia

People living with dementia are being offered a free opportunity to keep active and socialise in South Holland.

Three five-week Keep Healthy, Keep Active courses, consisting of two-hour sessions, will be run at different locations in the district in the next few months.
Each session – open to carers and sufferers – will kick off with opportunities to reminisce, prompted by artefacts such as old coins. Followed by varying activities such as seated or moderate exercise, potting plants or afternoon tea with music. There will also be opportunities to chat and socialise.

A qualified health trainer from the Lincolnshire Community and Voluntary Service (LCVS) Healthy Living Team is running the sessions, which have been funded by Lincolnshire’s Dementia Support Fund.
Jan Gould Martin, LCVS senior health and social care officer, said: “Staying physically active, emotionally stimulated and involved in the community is vital for people with dementia and their carers, but it is often easier said than done.
“These sessions are specially designed to be welcoming, accessible and informal.
“We would encourage anyone who is living with dementia to get in touch.”

The first course will be on Fridays, 2pm to 4pm, at Weston Hills Village Hall, 337 Broadgate, Weston Hills, beginning Friday, June 17.
Details of dates and venues for the other two courses will be announced soon.

The LCVS Healthy Living Team offers health advice and support via individual, group and remote sessions. It also offers workplace health packages and guest speakers.
