Four-midable high-fliers too hot for Knights

Newark & Sherwood United 4
Pinchbeck United 0

After the euphoria of their memorable FA Vase victory the previous week, depleted Pinchbeck United came back down to earth with a 4-0 defeat at Newark and Sherwood United on Saturday.
The high-flying hosts took a 1-0 lead into the break in the Ulhsport UCL Premier Division North clash after a strike from Kieran Cummings on just eight minutes at their Collingham Football Club base.
That’s how it stayed up until the midway point of the second period, when Luke White (67) made it two for Newark and Sherwood.
Now having to chase the game, Lewis Thorogood’s side shipped two more goals in the closing stages as Cummings (80) and Kian Sketchley (86) rounded off the win for the home side.
The loss leaves Pinchbeck in 14th place in the standings, while their hosts climbed up to third with the three points.
The hosts went ahead when ex-Spalding defender Ben Richards played a fine pass to Cummings, who slotted home.
White, another former Tulip, netted number two as he tapped home a Nyle Blake cross.
The final two goals were academic, with Cummins following up a saved White strike for his second and Sketchley also notching from close in after Alex Smith had denied the dangerous Cummins a hat-trick with a smart save.
Pinchbeck were also in action last night (Wednesday) as they hosted Skegness Town in the Lincs FA Senior Trophy (result not known as we went to press).
They are back in league action this Saturday as they welcome Sherwood Colliery to the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field (3pm).
Knights: Smith, Dilley, Miller, Stevens, Spafford, Robson, Williams, Peasgood, Johnson, Burdass, Foster. Subs used: Hardstaff, Henderson, Ponomarov, Simpson.
Attendance: 136.
