Pinchbeck United 5 Selston 0
Five-star Pinchbeck United racked up their biggest win of the season so far as they hammered old foes Selston on Saturday.
Goals from Spencer Weir-Daley, Andre Williams and Elliot Foster (penalty) put the Knights 3-0 to the good at half time in the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division North clash at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.
Sub Avi Vieira and Harry Peasgood then rounded off the rout against a Selston side they fiercely fought last season before ultimately finishing below them.
But the 5-0 thrashing highlighted just how far Pinchbeck have come under boss Lewis Thorogood, who was understandably delighted with the result.
He said: “The lads all wanted to avenge the defeat last time out and all stuck to our gameplan well.
“I said beforehand that we wanted to go out and dominate – and I think we achieved that.
“Other than one poor period of play we were always in control and that allowed us to give some of the lads who haven’t played as much some valuable minutes from the bench.
“I don’t want to get too carried away, but I guess this result does highlight the progress we’ve made here.
“We beat Selston 3-1 in the same game last year, but it was much closer and they ended up finishing ahead of us.
“We looked much improved on Saturday and the result didn’t really flatter us on the day.
“Overall it was a very pleasing day for all of us at the club, I knew we were capable of this kind of performance but it’s great to see the lads actually go out there and do it.”
