First home win for new team

The new Services team in the Spalding and District Billiards League got their first win of the season at home to Holbeach A winning 5-2.

Vince Fitter (o15) got the night off to a good start beating Ben Harding (o15) 200-166.

Fitter notching up breaks of 27 and 21 and Harding with a 20.

Nigel Cherry (r90) has been knocking on the door of a win, and this week he achieved that with a 200-123 win against Jason Rose (r10), who was making his debut for Holbeach.

However Phil Coaten (r100) for Holbeach rescued two points with a 200-119 victory against Phil Spencer (r70).

Broadway slip to second place in the league, losing at home to Holbeach B, Roxton Chapman (o255) having another good week of breaks for Broadway with a wonderful 139, along with 79, 39, 33 and 30.

He notched up a 200-129 win against Denis Hix (r60). But Andy Spearman (r80) and Neil Harvey (r30) for Holbeach turned the night around with wins against Steve Singh (o45) and Wole Akintola (r40).

The new leaders are Donington B, who had a 5-2 win at home to Pyramid A.

Mick Pearl (r65) managed a 20-point win, beating Pyramid’s John Clapton (r105).

Captain Neil Reynolds (o30) continued his good start to the season for Donington with a 200-172 victory against Oli Player (r30), Reynolds claiming the highest break of the night with a 43.

John Twell (r65) salvaged two points for Pyramid winning 200-174 against Neil Burton (r60).

On the other table at Donington their A team whitewashed Gosberton with a 7-0 win.

Player of the evening was Nigel Brasier (r60) who is now playing good billiards and dealt a crushing blow to Shane White (o35) of Gosberton winning 200-68.

Two close games that could have gone the other way resulted in Tony Scully (r35) winning by four points against Des Forbes (r55).

An 11.30pm finish to the final game saw Jim Thompson (r65) edge home by six points to Marcus Pell (o50) 200-194, moving Donington A up two places to fourth.

Consti hosted Pyramid B, with the visitors just edging a 4-3 win, with victories from Maurice Phillipson (r90) and Phil Cooke (r100) against John Bellerby (r95) and Alan Hansard (r65).

Consti captain Stewart Davies (r45) rescued the aggregate point with a 60 point win 200-140 against Darrell Read (r30).
