Spalding United Reserves finished 2015 fifth in ChromaSport PDFL Division One after a 5-1 victory at ICA Sports Reserves on the Saturday before Christmas.
Jake Farrell’s hat-trick and Dan Klos’ double delivered the goods for Kev Nottingham’s side, who won for the first time in a month.
Klos outmuscled two defenders before coolly picking his spot to give the Tulips an early lead.
In one of their best first-half showings of the season, Adam Braybrook and Ben Holland bossed midfield. Those two played a key role in Spalding’s second, which saw Farrell unleash a wonderful volley over the stranded keeper.
Klos and Farrell added to the tallies before the end of the half, both slotting the ball in from close range after good build-up play.
ICA came out in the second half more organised and this added to the drop in Spalding’s tempo, but created a closer contest. ICA pulled a goal back when Rafal Pietrzyk converted a corner with a thumping header.
Moments later Farrell completed his hat-trick with a close range finish, restoring the four-goal lead and with it, Spalding’s control of the game.
