The finals night of Holbeach and District Darts League served up some awesome action as another stellar season came to a close.
A host of high-class clashes were contested at the Tigers Social Club event, with a few surprise results.
The first trophy to be decided was the Shelton Cup (Division Two) between New Saracen’s Head A and Long Sutton RBL.
This one went the distance and was ultimately decided via a play-off, with the Sutton side emerging as 10-8 victors.
Then came one of the surprise results of the night, as Five Bells C upset the all-conquering Horse and Groom 12-5 to lift the Florida Cup (Division One).
It was a measure of revenge for Division One runners-up Five Bells against top tier champions Groom, who had lost just once in the league all season.
However, Horse and Groom didn’t have to wait long to get their hands on another trophy. They defeated Constitutional Club (Sutton Bridge) 4-1 in the Tony Canham Cup (fives) final to make it five team trophies for the season.
That’s because the Groom lads had already clinched the Caley Cup (beating Long Sutton RBL) and the Maurice Clark ‘3s’ Cup (seeing off Five Bells C) ahead of finals night.
They also won the Division One Team Cup, beating Rose and Crown. The Division Two version went to Long Sutton RBL, who saw off Hat and Feathers.
Next up were the Gilder Pairs finals. The Division Two trophy went the way of Long Sutton RBL’s Dawn MacTavish and Nick Horspool, who knocked off NSH A duo Alan “Lefty” Wright and Lynsey Wingell.
It was an all Five Bells C affair in the Division One final, as Colin Seaton and Lee Merrison took on team-mates Rick Seaton and Barry Bell.
This one also finished 2-0, with Rick Seaton and Bell taking the title.
Another trophy went to MacTavish in the Ladies’ Peachey Cup final, as she dispatched Tydd Gote’s Amy Walton 2-0.
Closing the night were the Clark Cup singles finals, with both ties finishing 2-0.
Kevin Newton (Long Sutton RBL) lifted the Division Two crown by seeing off Tigers Social Club B thrower Lee Ransom.
The top flight prize went the way of Rose and Crown’s James Truman, who fended off the advances of Horse and Groom’s Tommy Gostic.
Meanwhile, Steve Urch finished the season as the player with the most recorded 180 throws (five), while Danny Goddard was the only player to manage a 170 checkout.
Two players had 14-dart legs, with Alex Gostic and Colin Seaton (twice) sharing the spoils in the fewest darts thrown standings.
