Extra measures to protect county’s parking officers

Extra measures could be implemented to protect parking officers in areas where they have been threatened with violence.

Motorists have been told that abuse and threats against parking enforcement officers will not result in areas becoming “no-go zones”.

Members of Lincolnshire County Council’s highways and transport scrutiny committee were told that there have been incidents where motorists facing a penalty had become violent, but parking officers are trained in conflict resolution and do carry “body cameras”, which can be switched on to record any incidents.

Members were told: “Where officers have been threatened or been subjected to violence, the authority will use the full extent of the law to prosecute where possible.

“In areas which are known to be problematic, officers would patrol in pairs or with the police on standby.”
