Enjoyable warm up match sees ladies come out on top

Spalding Hockey Club Ladies’ 3rd 5
Spalding Hockey Club Walking Group 3

Ahead of their post Christmas return to East League hockey, the Spalding Ladies 3rd played the club’s walking hockey group in a warm up game.
For several of the walking hockey group playing 11-a-side on a full sized pitch was a new experience having been used to small sided games and playing area.
After a nervy start in which the ladies scored, the walking group bounced back with an equaliser from the evergreen Karen Thorold.
The ladies added a second before youngster Will Clark levelled the score before the break.
Lucy McClements restored the lead for the ladies with a spectacular goal immediately after the restart but once again the walkers bounced back with Dylan Hind finding the target.
With legs tiring, the walking group found the pace of the youngsters too much and the ladies added a fourth before Khloe Brewster rounded of an excellent performance from the ladies to secure a 5-3 win in a hugely enjoyable game.
A big thank you to umpires Matt Pilgrim and Andy Barlow.
Spalding Hockey Club’s Walking Hockey group plays every Wednesday 10.30am to 11.30am on the all-weather pitch at Glen Park, Surfleet, PE11 4DB, and is open to players of all ages and abilities.
The group has recently seen an increase in numbers with several former players returning to the game.
Those interested in joining the group, can email Fred Morris [email protected] for further information.
