Dunn rues ‘over-confidence’ as Pinchbeck blow early lead and are hit for six

Newport Pagnell 6
Pinchbeck United 3

For the second time in the Future Lions UCL Premier Division season, Pinchbeck United were smashed for six on Saturday.

The Knights fell 1-0 behind to Newport Pagnell Town early on when Tom Liversedge struck, but a double from Ollie Maltby and a Jordan Nuttell goal put them into a 3-1 lead at Willen Road.

However, strikes from Liversedge and Dom Lawless bang on half-time ensured that it was 3-3 at the break.

Josh Winters and Lawless then gave the Swans a 5-3 advantage, before Maltby crucially missed a penalty for Pinchbeck.

That proved costly, as red-hot hitman Liversedge completed his hat-trick to give the scoreline a harsh look for the Knights.

Having also been thumped 6-0 at Daventry Town earlier in the season, Pinchbeck’s amazing start to life in the division has now hit a few small bumps.

Although player/boss Ian Dunn felt the game could have finished 8-8, he accepted that the result wasn’t acceptable.

Dunn said: “Although we went behind early on, we were flying at 3-1 up.

“Maybe we got over-confident and took our foot off the gas, as we started making silly errors and we paid the price.

“I think we missed a few leaders on the pitch, especially with Jack Smith and Jason Field out.

“But don’t get me wrong, Lawless and Liversedge are among the best strikeforces in the league. They made the difference on the day, it was difficult to stop them.

“It was too easy for them, though. That’s the second time this season we’ve conceded six goals in a game – which isn’t really something we’ve been associated with at this football club.

“To be honest, at 5-3 Ollie missed a penalty that could have changed the game. If we’d scored, it could have ended up being 8-8 really.

“In the end, we were left chasing the game and it cost us a few goals.

“We need to play with a bit more heart, as conceding six goals isn’t really acceptable as far as I’m concerned.”

The defeat sees Pinchbeck fall to third in the table.

Pinchbeck: Lovelace, Wilson, Peasgood, Shipley, Bishop, Bayliss, Beeson, Tidswell, Ogden, Maltby, Nuttell. Subs used: Fieldhouse, Josh Smith, Fieldhouse.

Attendance: 84.
