Dunn left low as Pinchbeck United sink to the bottom after crucial Sleaford loss

Sleaford Town 2 Pinchbeck United 1

Ian Dunn admitted that he was left feeling very low after seeing his Pinchbeck United side hit rock bottom on Saturday.

Despite going 1-0 up early on at relegation rivals Sleaford through a Max Gee penalty (4), the Knights shipped two second-half goals and lost the Eslaforde Park basement battle 2-1.

A controversial own goal brought the scores level, before Liam Tunstall – who very nearly signed for Pinchbeck last month – buried the winner with 12 minutes to play.

The loss, a 19th from 23 Uhlsport UCL Premier Division game for Pinchbeck this season, sees them fall to 20th – two points behind Sleaford.

Having suffered more misery in one season than he’s endured for his entire managerial career, Dunn reckons this is the lowest ebb so far. He bemoaned the lack of effort shown by his side in the second half, but also felt a big refereeing decision went against the Knights.

Dunn said: “I can’t remember feeling as low as this in football.

“I didn’t really think that they troubled us at all in the first half, but after the break they just wanted it more – which is hard for me to take.

“We just didn’t compete at all, while you know that Sleaford are always going to work hard.

“We downed tools and it cost us dear, which left me feeling low all weekend.

“I could point to their first goal and say that we didn’t feel that the ball crossed the line.

“The referee gave it, not the assistant, which was odd. That was a key moment in the game.

“In truth, Sleaford’s experience was important on the day. We are a young team and they aren’t used to digging in like the Sleaford lads.

“You never want to go bottom and this is a massive loss. Relegation is obviously a massive worry for us now.”

To make matters worse, sub Odie Wason was sent off on 86 minutes.

Knights: Woolley, Gaukroger, Eyes (Kacirek 77), Parsons, Gilbert, Worthington (Wason 69), Gee, Bishop, Bayly, Richardson, Finley (Fieldhouse 66). Not used: Dunn.
