Dunn happy for Pinchbeck United to win ugly as ‘fantastic’ Murrell strike clinches points

MELTON TOWN 0
PINCHBECK UTD 2

A second-half stunner from Ash Murrell was the highlight as Pinchbeck United maintained their six-point lead at the top of ChromaSport UCL Division One with a 2-0 triumph at Melton Town on Saturday.

Tony Edwards gave the Knights a 30th-minute lead at Melton Sports Village, turning home an Andrew Tidswell cross from the Knights’ best piece of football in the first half.

Edwards then turned provider for Murrell on 62 minutes, with the defender lashing home a long-range screamer into the top corner on his left foot.

Keeper Dan Swan was forced to tip a late effort onto the bar, but Pinchbeck held firm to make it nine wins on the spin – much to the delight of manager Ian Dunn.

“We did what we had to do,” admitted the player/boss. “It wasn’t pretty, but it’s another three points.

“We’ll save the pretty football for when the pitches are better. At this stage of the season, it’s all about results.

“I think we underestimated quite how much of a slope there is at Melton. They had it in their favour in the first half and, to be fair, they came at us.

“Dan Swan had to make a few good saves and we struggled to produce many moments of quality.

“We did score from what was probably our only decent bit of football in the first half, actually.

“Ash Murrell’s goal in the second half was fantastic, he absolutely smashed it into the top corner.

“From then on we just managed the game and played some sensible football.

“They maybe had one good chance after that, but Dan made another outstanding save.

“We’re on great form at the moment and, if I’m honest, the only team that looks like beating us at the moment is ourselves.

“We’re very solid and have cut out the individual errors from the start of the season.

“We’ve won nine games in a row and only conceded twice – they are fantastic statistics for us.”

Pinchbeck: Swan, Gordon, Jack Smith, Brooks, Murrell, Tidswell, Wright, Shipley (Bishop 46), Ogden (Josh Smith 60), Edwards (Shackleton 65), Maltby. Not used: Dunn, Buzas.
