Dunn: First UCL defeat for Pinchbeck United a ‘harsh reality check’

Buckingham Town 2
Pinchbeck United 1

Disappointed player/boss Ian Dunn felt his Pinchbeck United side were given a “harsh reality check” as they slipped to their first defeat of the ChromaSport UCL Division One season on Saturday.

Despite going 1-0 up through a classy 18-yard Corey Kingston finish, the Knights wasted a host of other chances – and were punished by goals from Dan Silver (35) and Kelvin Osei-Addo (70) at the Irish Centre.

“The performance wasn’t great,” admitted Dunn. “But we still created enough chances to win the match.

“It’s becoming a bit of a regular problem for us, to be honest. Other than the Bourne Town game, we’ve just not been ruthless or clinical enough so far.

“We must have had seven or eight good chances, while they scored two of their three.

“It’s a harsh reality check for the lads, really.

“Last season against a PDFL side and a poorer keeper, we’d have probably got the points.

“Buckingham had a bit of knowhow and punished us for being so wasteful.

“At this level, we’ll continue to get punished if we miss chances. But it’s not like we’ve not got good strikers or that the chances aren’t falling to the right people – we just need to be more clinical.

“It was a game we should have won. In my mind, we’re about five points short of where we should be already.

“We’ll keep learning and hopefully the results will come.”

Pinchbeck: Martin, Gordon, Brooks, Jack Smith, Shipley, Tidswell, Ogden, Bishop (Panting), Maltby, Dunn (Wright), Kingston (Josh Smith). Not used: Eyes.

Attendance: 42.
