Dunn admits Pinchbeck United couldn’t have done much more in derby draw

Frustrated player/boss Ian Dunn admitted that it was just “one of those days” for his Pinchbeck United side as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Boston Town on Saturday.

A stunning strike from Liam Tunstall gave Town an early lead in the Future Lions UCL Premier Division clash, only for Nick Jackson to nod a leveller for the Knights just before the break.

Dunn’s side fashioned more than 20 chances in the 90 minutes, but were unable to beat the impressive Travis Portas again at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field and were forced to settle for a draw.

“It’s obviously frustrating for us,” admitted Dunn, who is a former Town manager. “We switched off at the source for their goal – which was a great strike if I’m honest.

“We then dominated the game and had what must have been more than 20 chances, with seven or eight of them on target.

“They got men behind the ball on what was a difficult pitch and, to be fair to them, they worked very hard.

“We’d play that game ten times and win most of the games four or five one.

“But maybe we got a taste of our own medicine from last year.

“You have to credit Boston in the end. They put their bodies on the line, worked for each other and the keeper was on great form.

“If they play like that for the rest of the season, they’ll be fine.

“It was one of those games. I feel like we deserved to win, but they also deserved a draw because of how much they put into the game.

“The lads came off the pitch and were absolutely knackered.

“We did all we could, but just came up short in attack. It happens sometimes, we’ll just take the point and move onto the next game.”

Pinchbeck host Netherton United into the Hinchingbrooke Cup on Wednesday night (7.45pm), then have no game on Saturday.

Pinchbeck: A Smith, Wilson, Jackson, Cartwright, Wright, Tidswell, Beeson, Adams, Limb, Maltby, J Smith. Subs used: Bayliss, Bishop, Edwards. Not used Shipley, Jack Smith.

Attendance: 132.
