Dunn actively seeking a new striker after Pinchbeck United’s Northern Star defeat

Pinchbeck United’s losing streak reached 11 games in all competitions after a disappointing 2-0 home defeat against Peterborough Northern Star on Saturday.

In what looked like a winnable game for the Knights on paper, goals from Liam Rodden (30) and Craig Smith (60) sentenced them to another beating at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.

With the likes of Ollie Maltby, Tyrone Burton, James Gordon and Max Gee all missing, Luke Blondel and Ndreqim Krashiqi were both handed league debuts by player/boss Ian Dunn.

But, despite the fresh faces, it was the same old result for struggling Pinchbeck.

Despite the Knights having chances to take the lead in the first period, Rodden’s goal from a corner was the difference at the break.

Smith doubled the lead with a super strike, but Pinchbeck looked dangerous in the latter stages when skipper Jordan Nuttell moved up front alongside Dunn himself.

Sadly, the goal their play deserved never arrived and the Knights remain stuck in the bottom two (19th).

“We’re badly lacking a goalscorer,” admitted Dunn. “We’re creating chances, but just can’t put them away at the moment.

“With Ollie (Maltby) not always fit this year, we’ve really suffered.

“I’ve got a few irons in the fire, but the truth is that it’s very hard to get deals over the line at the moment.

“Saturday’s loss was disappointing. We had a few chances and were in the game, but missed two big chances and then conceded to go in behind at half time.

“They then scored from a corner, which is disappointing.

“To be fair to Craig Adams, he then scored a cracker to kill it.

“We had some pressure late on, but it was a bit too late if I’m honest.”

This Saturday sees Dunn’s side visit fellow strugglers Cogenhoe United (3pm), who are five points better off in 18th.

“It’s a big game,” added Dunn. “They are in a similar situation to us and we’ve got to target it as a game we need to win.”

Knights: Woolley, Worthington, Gaukroger, Ross, Nuttell, Gilbert, Wilson (Kacirek 47), Parsons, Blondel (Dunn 67), Finley (Shores 82), Krashiqi.

Attendance: 40.
