Dube treble and Warfield winner send Holbeach United through

Lee Dube delivered another hat-trick on Saturday as Holbeach United moved into the quarter-finals of the UCL Knockout Cup with a 4-3 extra-time win over Olney Town.

The Tigers looked to be on cruise control against UCL Division One opposition at Carter’s Park thanks to an early Dube double (2 & 5).

But Olney, who are tenth in the UCL’s second tier, hit back to level with goals on 31 and 53 minutes.

That man Dube completed his treble on 67 minutes to make it a remarkable eight goals in four games, only for the visitors to force an additional period with another leveller 13 minutes from time.

It was the second Saturday on the spin that Holbeach had been forced to play extra time, having cruelly lost their FA Vase clash with Erith and Belvedere the previous weekend.

Club legend Matt Warfield ensured that there would be no back-to-back heartache for Graham Drury and John Chand’s side, though, as he buried a decisive effort in the 104th minute to book a quarter-final with Potton United.

While Holbeach were busy in cup action, two of their UCL Premier Division title rivals picked up valuable victories.

Leaders AFC Rushden and Diamonds restored their advantage over the Tigers to 11 points with an ominous 9-0 win at Desborough Town, although they’ve now played four games more.

In-form Wisbech Town are now second after they picked up a 4-1 success at struggling Long Buckby. They are a point clear of the now fourth-placed Tigers, but have played an additional match.

In the ChromaSport Peterborough League, Crowland Town picked up a 1-1 draw at fellow strugglers Leverington Sports and remain bottom, while Holbeach United Reserves lost 2-1 at Riverside.

Moulton Harrox’s home game with Deeping Rangers Reserves was postponed.
