Drunken Gosberton man interfered with arrest of woman

A court has heard that police were forced to arrest a drunken man who continually interfered with their arrest of a woman for theft.

Darren Fox, 52, of Lowgate, Gosberton admitted being drunk and disorderly when he appeared before magistrates in Boston.

Prosecuting, Andrew Convoy said police officers were arresting a woman for theft in New Road i Spalding at 9.45pm on October 13 when Fox, who was drunk, went over to them and refused to go away despite repeatedly being told to do so until eventually he had to be removed forcibly.

He said Fox swore at the police and eventually they had to arrest him.

Fox, who was not represented, said he was ‘very sorry’ and had ‘behaved stupidly’.

He said he had had problems with drink and drugs in the past but he had ‘really cut down’ on his drinking and was now drinking two cans a day instead of eight.

He said he was also seeing a mental health team for help.

The probation service said he was currently subject to a community order for a public order offence and was in breach of this as he was not keeping in touch with his offender manager.

The magistrates imposed a six month conditional discharge and ordered him to pay a total of £107 in court costs and charges.
